This season marks The Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art’s [SMoCA] 10th Anniversary of opening its doors to our community and schools. In celebration, SMoCA is delighted to share with school children and teachers a stellar season of exciting learning experiences, from arts activities to guided tours, slide presentations and teacher in-service workshops. We invite you to participate. Our mission is to provide events that foster creative expression, diversity and awareness of cultural heritage.
We design the programs featured in this brochure to provide your students with enriching activities that address the Arizona Visual Arts Standards and meet your grade-level expectations. Visits to SMoCA energize students and advance your classroom efforts. We look forward to sharing these dynamic offerings with your classes. Hope to see you soon at the Museum.

Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art [SMoCA] is saying farewell to long-time Associate Curator of Education, Sally Lindsay who retired on June 30, 2008. Sally has worked as a key member of SMoCA’s education team for almost two decades. During that time, she made a tremendous contribution to arts education in the Valley, first in her role at the Scottsdale Center for the Arts and then at SMoCA. Sally is truly part of SMoCA's foundations and has affected so very many children and families with her programs, her energy and her belief in the ability of the arts to build a sense of self. Sally will be splitting her time between Vancouver, BC, and her home here in the Valley. We wish her well in all her future endeavors and will miss her greatly.

We are delighted to welcome The Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art’s [SMoCA] new Associate Curator of Education, Laura Hales! Laura earned her Master of Arts degree in art education from ASU in 2004, but she’s not new to SMoCA. While in graduate school, Laura interned for SMoCA education and developed a teacher's guide for two of our exhibitions. She also was an intern at the Phoenix Art Museum. Laura has taught at the Shemer Arts Center and at Fountain Hills High School, and has actively been engaged in collaboration with ASU’s Dr. Mary Erickson to design, write and produce visual art curricula. She also was art director for Arizona Building & Development, an illustrator for Continental Homes, Gosnell Development, and was owner and principal artist of L. Ramson Illustration & Design. Welcome, Laura!
